سفال موسوم به RWB ازجمله سنتهای سفالی دوران مسوسنگ مناطق غرب زاگرسمرکزی است. این عنوان توسط «لوین» و تیم پروژۀ ماهیدشت بر این گونۀ سفالی اطلاق شده است. تنها اطلاعات موجود دربارۀ این سنت سفالی به پروژۀ ماهیدشت در فاصلۀ سالهای 78-1975م. برمیگردد. این پروژه بهدلایل سیاسی و وقوع انقلاب اسلامی ناتمام باقیمانده و درنتیجه هیأت مذکور موفق به انتشار کامل دادههای گردآوری شده و طبیعتاً سفالهای گونۀ RWB نشدند. در پژوهش حاضر درپی پاسخگویی به ابهامات و پرسشهای یاد شده و نیز ارائه تصویری کامل و جدیدتر از این سفال، شواهد سفالین نوع RWB کاوش تپه چقاماران که اکنون در موزۀ ملی ایران نگهداری میشوند نیز از نزدیک مورد بررسی و مطالعه قرار گرفت. در مطالعۀ پیشِرو علاوهبر بررسی دقیق جزییات فنی سفالهای یاد شده، با جمعبندی تحقیقات صورتگرفته درمورد گاهنگاری و دامنۀ گسترش سفال نوع RWB نتایج جدیدی بهدست آورده است که برخی از آنها با تحقیقات قبلی سایر پژوهشگران این حوزه همخوان نیست و در تضاد با آنها قرار میگیرد. باتوجه به مطلب گفته شده ابهامات و پرسشهای زیادی دربارۀ این گونۀ سفالی وجود دارد؛ مشخصات فنی و دقیق سفال نوع RWB چیست؟ گاهنگاری دقیق و بازۀ زمانی این گونه در جدول گاهنگاری پیشازتاریخ غرب ایران چه تاریخی را دربر میگیرد؟ این سنت سفالی چه مناطقی از غرب ایران را تحت پوشش دارد؟ برخی از محوطههای تاریخگذاری شدۀ غرب ایران با سفال نوع نخودی با نقوش سیاه رنگ (Black on Buff / BOB) بهوضوح سفال نوع RWB هستند که بهدلیل عدم وجود مستندات از پروژۀ ماهیدشت تاکنون به اشتباه به فرهنگ BOB اطلاق شدهاند. بهطورکلی آنچه که در این نوشتار ارائه میشود؛ جدیدترین بازخوانی از اطلاعات مربوط به گونۀ سفال RWB در مطالعات دوران مسوسنگ غرب ایران است.
