از مهم‌ترین دغدغه‌های هر دانشی موضوع اصطلاح‌شناسی در آن است. اصطلاح‌‌شناسی، مطالعۀ مفاهیم تخصصی و نحوۀ استفاده از آن‌ها در یک حوزۀ علمی است. مسـأله در این پژوهش، تشویش نوشتن و به‌طور کلی مسـأله‌مندی نوشتن در حوزۀ علم باستان‌شناسی و هدف آن ارائه تصویــری دقیق از اصطلاح شناسی دورۀ نوسنگی در روند گذار از مصرف غذا به تولید غذا است . این نوشتار تلاش دارد، مشکلات ناشی از تعدد و کثرت معادل‌ها را مورد بررسی قرار داده و پیشنهادهایی در جهت یکسانی و یکنواختی آن‌ها مطرح کند. برخی از واژه‌های تخصصی فرأیند نوسنگی‌شدن، در پس پویایی الگوواره‌های باستان‌شناسی و در گذر از باستان‌شناسی تاریخی-فرهنگی به باستان‌شناسی فرآیندی و پس از تغییر رویکرد‌های آستانه‌ای به رویکرد‌های فرآیندی و بلندمدت شکل‌گرفته‌اند؛ اما باستان‌شناسی ایران هنوز نتوانسته با این پویایی همگام شود. تصویری که از این‌طریق برای کاربران علم باستان‌شناسی ایجاد می‌شود، تصویری ایستا از علم است و این نتیجه‌گیری را درپی دارد که علم، پدیده‌ای ساکن و تغییر ناپذیر است. این پژوهش با هدف نشان‌دادن مشکلات و کمبود‌هایی نوشته شده که می‌تواند در زمینۀ انتقال دانش باستان‌شناسی، بدون آماده‌سازی زبان علمی، ایجاد شود. یکی از دلایل پرداختن به این موضوع، نیاز به انتقال دانش جدید است. از آنجایی‌که در دوره‌ای مهم از پژوهش‌های باستان‌شناختی در ایران به‌سر می‌بریم که دوران گذار از رویکرد‌های سنتی به فرآیندی است و مطالعۀ فرآیند نوسنگی‌شدن در بسیاری از مناطق ایران در آغاز راه قرار دارد، لازم است که به مباحثی مانند اصطلاح‌شناسی تخصصی این دوره، پرداخته شود. این نوشتار یک مطالعۀ کیفی به روش توصیفی-تحلیلی است که در آن ابتدا به توصیف برخی از مفاهیم و شاخص‌های آن پرداخته شده و سپس پیشنهادهایی در ایجاد و معادل‌سازی اصطلاحات ارائه شده است.
