The history of inscription in Iran goes back several thousand years ago. The date of creation and the geographical location of the inscriptions, the type of lines used, their topics, and their content are very important from the viewpoint of archeology, history, culture, and literature. In different historical periods (from the ancient to the modern era), the inscriptions have gone through various stages in terms of the course of transformation and development, and these inscriptions can be seen everywhere in the great country of Iran. There are many inscriptions in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiyari, due to their ancient and historical background from the Elam, ancient, Islamic, and modern eras.
By examining and introducing these inscriptions, one can also learn about their various aspects and concepts including religious and social elements, in addition to the general understanding of their historical evolution of them. With this in mind, the present research has been conducted in library (documental) and field method. It is a descriptive-analytical study aiming at introducing the inscriptions of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province in general. It seeks to answer the question: What are the most important religious themes of the inscriptions of the province? Examining the available sources shows that there are many inscriptions in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province, each of which has different scripts, shapes, and sizes and according to their type of usage (including the castle, Hammam, Mosque, Imamzadeh, Saqakhana), reflects the type of religious beliefs, social thoughts and culture of the residents of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari from the past to the present day. The results of this study will be useful for other researchers and students who are interested in the field of inscriptions and epigraphy, besides other resources.
