In the last decade, emerging the eco-tourism resorts showed that its expanding needs the necessary infrastructure. It is clear that different components such as economical and social matters are effective in the development of ecotourism. In this regard, the purpose of this study was to investigate the social and economic role of ecotourism in the local community. We used descriptive-survey method and the points of views of professors, ecologists, supervisory bodies, tourism guides and users of ecotourism residences. In particular, the study area was Shahrood Abr forest, which is one of the Hyrcanian forests and has received much attention due to the increase of ecotourism habitats in recent years. The results of structural equation modeling showed that the signinficant impact of ecotourism on employment components, service-ecotourism and income-ecotourism were 0.84, 0.35 and 0.43 respectively, and for social analysis it was not significant. The results showed that ecotourism has great impacts on employment, the level of income, and service prosperity, and its impact on social & cultural issues is slight. Other findings showed that employment and low impact on the region's income level are the main challenges of ecotourism.
