بنابر نظر برخی از محققین، هنر قاجار از یک طرف تحت تأثیر غرب و از طرف دیگر در امتداد هنر گذشته ایران دانسته می‌شود. با بررسی آثار به جامانده می‌توان رد این تأثیر‌پذیری را در دیوارنگارههای قاجاری نیز مشاهده کرد. در فرآیند خلق یک دیوارنگاره، هنرمند می‌کوشد با انتخاب صحیح مضمون طرح، کاربری فضا، محل دیوار و سایر ویژگی‌ها بتواند پیوندی پایدار بین عناصر کالبدی، طرح و محیط پیرامون ایجاد و به خلق فضایی یکپارچه دست زند. در دوره‌ای از حکومت قاجار، برخی بناها از نقاش‌های دیواری دارای مضامین طبیعت‌گرا برای تزئین کالبد خود بهره برده‌اند. نظر به حضور عناصر تجسمی سبک ناتورالیسم در دیوارنگارههای عمارت سیدجوادی، اینگونه به‌نظر می‌رسد که خلق این آثار تحت تأثیر این سبک صورت گرفته است. با توجه به این موضوع و با هدف کشف این ارتباط، پژوهش حاضر ضمن شرح بنیاد و ویژگی‌های مکتب ناتورالیسم، به بررسی عناصر تجسمی مشترک و مفاهیم موجود در دیوارنگارههای این بنا و نقاشی‌های سبک ناتورالیسم پرداخته است. به‌عنوان نتیجه، ساختار و مؤلفه‌های تجسمی این آثار کاملا منطبق بر الگوهای سبک ناتورالیسم هستند. با توجه به اینکه نگاره‌های مذکور به صورت سفارشی و با نظر کارفرمای عضو طبقه حاکم بر دیوار نقش بسته‌اند، اینگونه به‌نظر می‌رسد که مالکین این بنا نیز تحت تأثیر روح حاکم بر جامعه به شکل تقلیدی و بی‌کم و کاست و بدون درنظر گرفتن مفاهیم مستتر در این ساختار، (اصطلاحا به‌صورت کارت پستالی) نظر به برخی جریانات مرسوم در غرب از جمله ناتورالیسم داشته‌‌اند.
