Kuhdasht and Rumishkan counties comprise a significant area of Western Pish-i kuh in Luristan Province. The strategic location of Kuhdasht and Rumishkan, which historically connected the southwestern and central regions of Iran to the Great Khorasan Road and, ultimately, to Mesopotamia, as well as their environmental suitability, have attracted human groups in various periods. This article examines the settlement patterns of the Parthian and Sassanian eras, and investigates the factors influencing the archaeological landscape of this region. To achieve this, 277 sites, including mounds, settlements, and architectural structures documented in studies conducted in Kuhdasht and Rumishkan counties, have been analyzed. Additionally, this study compares the habitat quality of the Parthian and Sassanian periods in Kuhdasht with that of other regions to address the interactions between settlement patterns and the environment. The findings indicate that changes in settlement patterns occurred during the Parthian and Sassanian eras, such as an increase in the number of sites during the Parthian period and an expansion in the size of sites during the Sassanian period.
