Abstract

 Studying and examining Quranic works is of great importance due to their respect and sanctity among Muslims, so that the historical, cultural and religious value of such works doubles the importance of their protection and preservation. The work examined in this study is a Quran scroll sample belonging to the Haj Rahim Mosque in Tabriz. According to field research and statements by the board of trustees of the mosque, this scroll was placed inside the mosque wall at an unknown time as a vow or talisman and was discovered in ‎‏1350‏‎ AH during the reconstruction of the mosque through the thatched wall. During this study, the paper making technique and ink used in the work were studied. In line with this goal, the type of paper fibers and paper pulp and the inks used in the work, including black, red and gold pigment, and finally the glue used to join the sheets together were examined. All the identifications made in this research were done using chemical methods except for the identification of the type of glue used at the beginning and end of the sheets, which was done using a Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy device. The results indicate the use of linen and rag fibers and polysaccharide starch to prepare the paper and carbon black ink, rosin pigment for the red ink, and copper oxide compounds for the gold color. Also, the glue used at the beginning and end of the sheets was identified as -Serish- animal glue‏‏‏‏.

Abstract

The Dezful historical bridge, a prominent example of Sassanid architecture in the city, is characterized by its stone foundations and unique structural features. This research explores the restoration and reconstruction methods applied to the spans of the Dezful historical bridge, with a focus on preserving the structural authenticity over time. The research method is historical-interpretive, with data collection through both library and field research. The findings indicate a wide variety of restoration and reconstruction techniques employed throughout history. The key research question is: What is the diversity of restoration methods for the foundations of the Dezful historical bridge, and how have these methods impacted the bridge's structural authenticity and historical value over time? Notable techniques include the use of simple cement coatings, brick patterns, plaster and lime coatings with brick patterns, and a combination of stone and brick materials. Additionally, the types of stones used in the reconstruction show variations in appearance, texture, dimensions, and arrangement. This diversity in reconstruction methods has resulted in an inappropriate visual appearance for the bridge's structure, negatively impacting its authenticity and historical value. The research concludes that the lack of a unified restoration approach may diminish its significance as a key symbol of the Sassanid period, emphasizing the need for greater attention to consistency in restoration practices and the preservation of the building’s original features.

Abstract

The heritage remaining from the short era of Zandiyeh in Shiraz are very diverse and decorated with various decorations. The use of stone can be seen in different parts of these buildings, such that it is used in the external and internal plinths of the building, columns, paving yard and ponds. The plinth walls are sometimes decorated with paintings and sometimes with sculptures, and one of the unique plinths is the battle of Rostam and Ashkboos in the courtyard of Divan Khaneh complex. The purpose of this paper is the scientific pathology of the changes and destructions created in the carvings of Divan Khaneh building. The main question raised is how short-range photogrammetry technology can help accurately document damage to historical relief monuments. The research method is applied and experimental. which has been evaluated using survey and field research. The obtained results state that the use of photogrammetric method is a safe method that is very effective in damage imaging and can show the amount of changes made in the main structure of the stone. In this method, the amount of decay and various destructions of the sculptural effect was evaluated and analyzed, which includes separation, cracks and fissures, material loss, erosion, discoloration, and sedimentation.

Abstract

Documenting is an important and significant part in the field of conservation and restoration of historical monuments. The information obtained in this process can play a significant role in how to deal with emergency protection methods. In the past, most of the documenting process was done manually, which could be accompanied by various errors. With the arrival of new technologies, various methods were investigated and evaluated in this case. Historical buildings built in Iran have various characteristics and different arrays are used in the decoration of these buildings. One of the best examples of these decorations is the wooden ceilings, which were used in historical buildings, especially during the Qajar period in Shiraz, and suffered various damages. The purpose of this research is to make a detailed pathological study of the changes applied to the wooden ceilings known as Marjoek in the Kazeronian house in Shiraz, which are decorated with paintings. The main question raised is what the best way of is documenting the damage of this category of works and whether short-range photogrammetry can be effective in this field. The research method is applied and experimental. Which has been evaluated using survey and field research. The results obtained state that the use of photogrammetry is a safe method that is very effective in damage imaging and can show the amount of changes made in the main structure of wood. In this method, the degree of bending and change of the wooden beams of the roof of Kazeronian house was evaluated and analyzed, and then the best method for strengthening and restoring the effect to its original state was selected and used.
