Long hisory and multiplicity of the Iranian-Islamic art and civilization left us a gigantic heritage from the pas for the present and future generations of concerning countries as well as the whole world. This heritage includes rock reliefs, metal and ceramic objects, manuscripts and miniatures, woodworks, textiles, and architectural ornaments. After centuries or millennia, we have been handed over these works which might have been exposed to deterioration and sructural delicacies that need lots of serious attention through conservation and preservation. Temperature, humidity, lighting, pollutants, pess, human interventions via war or ignorance, vandalism as well as natural disasers are among factors that have always threatened hisorical works. Conservators and resorators have consantly been faced with challenges and quesions regarding preventive methods and maintaining ones agains these threads. Nowadays, collaboration and co-operation of experts of diverse sciences resulted in answers and necessary remedies. Now, it is more than ffty years that different scientifc and technical disciplines have found their way in conservation of cultural heritage all around the world. Asonishing advancements in the said disciplines within the recent decades led in emergence of new horizons for sudying hisorical and artisic works. Application of precise and non-desructive methods in fundamental and engineering sciences such as: physics, chemisry, biology, metallurgy, ceramics, computer and the like has furnished conservators and resorators with thorough scrutiny of works under sudy. Consequently, they accomplished to fnd more valuable and reliable explanations. Accordingly, during the recent decades, amazing achievements have been yielded in scientifc conservation and resoration of hisorical and artisic works which can be an impellent for publication of such scientifc-specialized gains in this feld of sudy. In 1973, the frs conservation laboratory was esablished in the Iranian Cultural Heritage, Handicraft and Tourism
Organisation (ICHHTO) for sysematic and scientifc engagements. Later on in 1990, a central research laboratory was founded for carrying out fundamental and applied scientifc researches for the same purpose. At the moment, the later laboratory has been transformed into the Research Center for Conservation of Cultural Relics (RCCCR). As a result, we have witnessed many developments in conservation and resoration of objects in Iran. Therefore, publication of the “Iranian Conservation Science Journal” is the fruit of efforts made within the pas decades. It tries to share with other experts all around the globe, the lates foreign and Iranian sudies, in English, on materials, technology, conservation and resoration methods, preservation as well as presentation of new methods about sudying and conservation of objects while focusing on Iranian and/or Islamic works. This journal will be a useful and important source for experts dealing with cultural heritage while keeping an eye on conservation and resoration of objects, curatorship, archaeometry as well as other experts of fundamental sciences who may desire to be familiar with the role of sciences in conservation of cultural heritage. The journal hopes to contribute its share in promotion of conservation science of invaluable cultural heritage through supports of relevant researchers and experts who publish their articles in this periodical.
